Mary Jean (Imogene) Lambert Hinton, 83, was surrounded by family and enveloped in love and song as she left her earthly body on Monday, June 1, 2020.
She was born on March 13, 1937 in Memphis, TN to Charlie and Lucile Lambert, the second of twelve children. Filled with adventure, she travelled the world with her Naval officer husband and love of her life, Curtis Alvin Hinton, for whom she was married 63 beautiful years. She filled the room wherever she went with her lyrical song and warm smile; one felt a sense of peacefulness just being in her presence. She was cherished by everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her children Cheryl Hinton Hooks and husband Gene of Fremont, NC; Cathy Hinton Pope and husband Dan of Cary, NC; Curtis Alvin Hinton, Jr. and wife Robin of Goldsboro, NC; her grandchildren Jennifer C. Johnson, Megan Johnson, Lara Smith and husband Rob, Amy Johnson and husband Matthew King, Reagan Hinton, Daniel Pope, Caroline Pope, Trey Hinton and fiancé Madeline Muston, Kyle Hooks; and her great grandchildren Marc-Roman Guercio, Fletcher Smith, Charles King, and Declan Smith.
Mary Jean loved Christ, her family, and her church. She was an active member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist, the Ambassador Sunday School Class, Alpha Circle, and the Stoney Creek Home Extension Club.
Her life will be celebrated at a memorial service for family, friends, and church members on Friday, June 5 at 11 a.m. at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist.
Private burial will be held at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
