Karan Gaffney Ray, 68, went to be with her Lord Saturday, surrounded by her family and some of her closest friends.
A Funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at 4:00 PM at Evergreen Funeral Home with Pastor Kelvin Gurley officiating. Committal will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will visit with friends and loved ones from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Evergreen Funeral Home, and other time at the residence of Al & Lauren Cotter, 303 Muriel Hooks Dr., Goldsboro.
She is survived by her husband, Cary F. Ray; children, Lauren Bailey Cotter and husband, Al of Rosewood, Todd Ray and wife, Anne of Richmond, VA, and Jackie Batchelder and husband, Kevin of Richmond, VA; two brothers, Michael Gaffney, Neil Gaffney and wife, Beverly; three sisters, Elaine Gallegos and husband, Al, Diane Brooks and husband, Dennis, and Melea Randolph; and 10 grandchildren.
Karan was very proud of her direct descendence from Ireland's Michael Gaffney, a 1700's founder of Gaffney, SC.
Karan was preceded in death by her parents, Edith Burrow Gaffney and Lawrence Fredrick Gaffney, who were living in Troy, NC at the time of her birth, her brother Lawrence Fredrick Gaffney, Jr. and her sister, Annette Gaffney. Karan was a member of Unity Fellowship Church and was retired from banking.
