Royce Gray Davis

GOLDSBORO Royce G. Davis, 89, it is with tender hands of compassion and genuine hearts of love that his family announce that he has joined his lovely wife Evangeline Bunn Davis in peace and rest in heaven. Mr. Davis was born to the late Leslie Dillard Davis and Sadie Ferrell Davis. He was married to his loving and cherished wife for 65 and ½ years before she entered into rest in 2021. He lived in and cherished the house he helped build in Goldsboro for 58 years until he turned 89 years of age. Royce proudly served in the US Army from January 1957 to January 1959. He was also a member of The First Church Goldsboro. Prior to that, he enjoyed singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School at Free Chapel Church in Goldsboro. Royce also enjoyed Carpentry, Yard Work and Baseball. He was a former member of the Goldsboro Volunteer Rescue Squad for nine years and is a member of the EMS Brotherhood Association. He was also a Small Aircraft solo pilot. Mr. Davis attended school at Pikeville High School in Pikeville, American School in Chicago, IL, Crumpler’s Secretarial School in Goldsboro, East Carolina University in Greenville, First American Bank in Goldsboro, Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, and back to Wayne Community College in Goldsboro. Throughout the years Mr. Davis worked with Textilease Corporation in Goldsboro as a route salesman, Royce Davis Grocery & Service Station in Princeton as owner and operator, Davis Wholesale Distributor in Goldsboro as owner and operator, New York Carpet World in Goldsboro as a salesman, Coastal Wholesale in Kinston as a salesman, Southco Distributing Company in Goldsboro in the receiving department, and Goldsboro Builders Supply in Goldsboro in marketing as well as shipping and receiving. He is survived by his two daughters, Dee Ann Davis Harmon and her husband Al Harmon of Locust Grove, GA and Terry Davis Moulton and her husband Scott Moulton of Portland, TN. His grandchildren; Victoria Harmon of Alpharetta, GA, Caroline Harmon and fiancé Nathan Dawson of Plant City, FL, Alisa Harmon of Kennesaw, GA, Andrew Moulton of Portland, TN, and Samuel Moulton and wife Olivia Moulton and a great-granddaughter, Millie Moulton all of White House, TN., a brother, Dearl Davis and sister-in-law, Glenda of Pikeville, and sisters-in-law Dollie Davis Bryant of Dunn, and Helene Davis of Elm City. Along with his wife and parents he was preceded in death by, a grandson, Thomas Hunter Moulton, a great-grandson, Weston James Moulton, two sisters, Velda Davis Anderson and husband Riley Anderson and Linda Davis Smith and husband Luther Smith, six brothers, Rudolph Davis, Leslie Davis and wife Grace Davis, Elmer Ray Davis and wife Katherine Davis, Kenneth Davis, and Connie Davis. Funeral service will be Saturday April 13 at 11:00 AM in Evergreen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Rose and the Rev. John Howard officiating. The committal will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM before the service in Evergreen Funeral Chapel.
