Lavina I Harper Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Miss Lavina I. Harper, 96, of Provo, Utah passed away Monday, September 20, 2021. She was a native of the Nahunta Community of Wayne County and was the daughter of Alma Ishmael Aycock Harper and William Walter Harper. She attended East North Carolina Teacher's College where she received her B.A. degree in Home Economics and Social Science. She taught High School in North Carolina and Granite School District in Utah for 16 years. She received her M. S. degree in Family Life at Utah State University and taught Family Living at Church College of Hawaii in Laie, Hawaii for over 25 years. She served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Philippines. Lavina was cherished by all who knew her (especially her nieces and nephews and their spouses). She lived a long and full life as a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She lived her life in service to others. She loved to tell of her travels to India, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Polynesian Islands, Canada, South America, Mexico and many others. In addition her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Walter Harper, Jr., her sisters, Neva H. Smith, Wilma H. Hirschmann, and Vivian H. Pope, nephew, Roger W. Smith, and nieces, Shirley S. Olson and Wanda S. Wood. Lavina is survived by her sister, Lettie H. Wilmore. She is also survived by devoted nieces and nephews: Steven G. Smith, Wilma S. Fullmer, Pamela S. Werner, Wendell R. Smith, Becky S. Johnson, Barbara S. Qadri, David M. Smith, Bryan D. Smith, Eric Hirschmann, Paula H. Carter, Clive Arden Pope, ViAnn P. Prestwich, Cole Pope, Donna Pope, Clark Pope, Verl Pope, Ryle Pope, Ron Willmore, Reed Willmore, Ryan Willmore, Rhett Willmore, Regan Willmore, Rachel Willmore, and Ruth Willmore. A special thanks to her niece, Wilma S. Fullmer, who so lovingly cared for her in the latter years of her life. Thanks also to her nephew Eric Hirschmann and his wife Karna, her beloved grand-nephew, Connor Sugrue, nephew, Steven Smith and her nurses, Sarah Vaitohi and Donna Holt. A graveside service will be held Friday (Oct 1, 2021) at 2:00 PM at the Thomas Ruffin Aycock cemetery, 198 Aycock-Coston Lane, Pikeville, NC. Elder Kenneth Cogdall will dedicate the grave. Lavina requested memorials be given to the American Cancer Society or to genealogy research.
