C.W. Turner Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

C. W. Turner, Jr., 189 Lancaster Road died Thursday with his family by his side at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Monday at 7:00 PM at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, 752 Stoney Creek Church Road, Goldsboro. Following the funeral, there will be a time of visiting and sharing with the family. Committal will be held Tuesday at 2:00 PM at Wayne Memorial Park, 2925 Hwy 117 S., Dudley (the day and time is subject to change due to inclement weather). Pallbearers will be members of the Patetown Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Christine Hare Turner, two daughters, Cathy Turner Gurley (Hardy) of Pikeville and Donna Turner Parker (Bobby) of LaGrange and five grandchildren Molly Parker, Amy Parker, Alison Gurley, Jody Gurley and Holly Gurley. Mr. Turner, a native of Mount Olive, was the son of the late Alice Hudson Turner and Charlie William Turner, Sr. He served his country in the National Guard, Army during the Korean Conflict, then in the Air Force Reserves totaling sixteen years of service. In 1959, he joined the Patetown Fire Department; serving as Chief from 1963 to 1998. Also, he was past president of the Wayne County Firemans Association and was previously Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Patetown Fire Department. He received the G .Edgar Summerlin Fireman of the Year Award from the Wayne County Firemans Association in 1981. Mr. Turner was a member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his siblings Bertha Waitley, David Turner, Christine Sutton and Elizabeth “Lib” Crumpler.
