Ann Rosson Sullivan Smith, age 74, passed peacefully on Wednesday, June 19 at Wayne UNC Hospital. Born in Wilmington, NC, she was the daughter of the late Charles Aaron and Dorothy Elizabeth Mooring Sullivan and sister of the late, Charles Aaron Sullivan, JR. One of four children, she was raised in Nahunta, NC and married Jack Dixon Smith, Sr. on August 30, 1961. She was the owner of Ann’s Beauty Shop in Rosewood and was a former EMT with Johnston Ambulance Service. A life-long resident of Wayne County, Ann was a 1977 charter member of the Rosewood Jayceettes, and a member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church.
Ann loved to paint, crochet, bake, and go fishing. Growing flowers and going to the beach were some of her other passions, as was singing with her sisters. Most of all, she loved her sweetheart of 57 ½ years, her husband, Jack. She was dedicated to her family; her children, grandchildren and great grandchild were the apples of her eye. She was a people person and was always excited to help others, including the promotion of teaching women to do self-breast exams.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Sunday, June 23 at 4 pm at Pine Forest UMC with Rev. Madison Hankal officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Forest Church cemetery. The family will visit with friends before the service at 2 pm in the church fellowship hall.
In addition to her husband Jack, Ann is survived by her children, Jack Smith, Jr and wife, Angelia; Cynthia Smith Cuddington and husband, Alan; Terrie Smith Braxton and husband, Donel; Jennifer Smith Strickland and husband, Billy, II; sisters, Dorothy Sullivan Keen, Catherine “Cathy” Sullivan Neese; eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
