Elsie Yarbrough Wicker, 81, passed away Thursday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Funeral will be at 7:00 on Monday evening at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 3859 Hwy 70 West. Entombment will be at 10:00 on Tuesday at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
There will be a time of visiting and sharing with the family in the Fellowship Hall from 5:30-6:45 prior to the service on Monday and at other times at their residence 2508 Norwood Avenue.
She was an active member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church after moving to Goldsboro in 1975. Mrs. Wicker dedicated her life to volunteering. She cared for, loved and lived to entertain the patients at Britthaven Nursing Home for 22 years. She was recognized numerous times as the Most Outstanding Volunteer of the Year by the Eastern Regional District of Britthaven and also by Woodmen of the World. In 2001, she received the Most Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award from the Governor of the State of North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Esther Calvin Lett Yarbrough and Earlie Lacy Yarbrough, her sisters; Marquerite Hargis, Dorothy Ann Stone and Sadie Mae Rawls, a brother; Puzie David Yarbrough and also a grandson, Jason Wicker.
Survivors include her husband Tracy W. Wicker, her sons; Donald Wayne Wicker and wife Annette of Pikeville and Rev. Gerald “Jerry” Lee Wicker and wife Petra of Prince George, Virginia. Grandchildren; Crystal Gale Wicker, Tammy Wicker Person, Jennifer Wicker, Jessica Wicker and Tracy Lee Wicker, her six great-grandchildren, a brother, Albert C. Yarborough and wife Joyce of Durham, her sisters, Helen Barbara Maddox of Sanford and also Lula Belle Jones and husband Needham of Theodore, Alabama.
